Hello, I’m glad you’re here.
First, the basics: My name is Chelsea Athing and I am a birth and postpartum doula. I offer those services both independently and as a combined package, providing care and support to clients who live (or plan to give birth) in Seattle and south Snohomish County. You can check my availability via DoulaMatch, however the world of birth work is quite fluid, so I always recommend reaching out to me directly for my most up to date availability!
Prior to becoming a doula, I received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Puget Sound in 2010 and served as a women’s health physical therapist until the birth of my daughter in 2020.
As a women’s health physical therapist, I understand and appreciate the physical demands of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum periods. No matter how your baby comes into this world, I believe your role in it is nothing short of magical. Should you fail to see/forget/need reminders of how incredible and badass you are, I am here for you!
Your journey and your needs are unique—take a look below to learn more about me, check out my services page for specifics on plans and pricing, and if it feels like we might be a good fit, contact me and we’ll go from there!

I am in this work to support YOU. To ensure that your birth experience leaves you feeling cared for and centered, regardless of how your baby actually comes into the world. Support means different things to different people, so my style reflects that. Whether you need someone to count and breathe through each contraction with you, a trusted person to be there as you talk through pros and cons of interventions or next steps, a quick laugh to shift the energy, or someone to simply ensure your partner gets food and rest breaks, I am here for you!

My ‘magic hands’, my authenticity, my ability to attune to their needs (ever changing as they may be), my respect for the human body and all that it is capable of, and my genuine love and care for this work.

I received my birth doula training through the Simkin Center for Birth at Bastyr University, and I am certified as a Postpartum Doula through Prodoula. Additionally, I have a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Puget Sound. While practicing as a physical therapist, my specialty was in women’s health (specifically assisting women during the pregnancy and postpartum phases).
I have been a PEPS facilitator since 2017, helping countless families navigate the last months of pregnancy and the early stages of raising kids.
Professionally, I am trained to support you at home, a birth center, or hospital. Personally, I delivered both my kids at home and am happy to share about that experience if you’re interested.

As a women’s health physical therapist, I understand and appreciate the physical demands of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum periods. No matter how your baby comes into this world, I believe your role in it is nothing short of magical. Should you fail to see/forget/need reminders of how incredible and capable you are, I am here for you! At any phase, when you have questions about what is happening to your body (what is normal vs. abnormal regarding pain and healing, how to safely move your body during the pregnancy and postpartum phase, etc),I will answer questions and/or direct you to resources and practitioners who can help you get the support and care you need.
As a Birth and Labor Doula I can:
-massage you/your partner to help you stay relaxed
-offer suggestions for positions that encourage labor to progress
-provide hands on techniques to help you cope during labor
As a Postpartum Doula I can:
-give you and your partner a shoulder massage after a long day
-offer advice on what stretches to do to alleviate neck/low back pain
-assess your setup and the positions you are in as you feed/care for/soothe baby to ensure they are as supportive of your comfort and healing as possible
-provide guidance on how to ease back into exercising, educate you on who to see if you are experiencing incontinence, pain, etc.
-help you understand what’s normal, and what to do/who to see when things aren’t working!

“Chelsea was absolutely amazing. From the moment she entered our home her warmth, encouragement, confidence, sensitivity, intuition and empathy made it seem like a visit from an old trusted friend. She slipped seamlessly into the labor and birthing process, filling the gaps that I hadn’t been able to anticipate, giving us her undivided and unwavering attention. I cant imagine going through this without her. She is a very special person and we will love her forever. Thank you thank you thank you until the end of time.” —Sean T.
“Chelsea was especially helpful with working with my breathing during contractions. She never left my side, encouraged me to look in her eyes, breathed with me and even made the same sounds with me. I found this extremely validating as well as absolutely essential for me to stay present during the labor and not spin out of control. Her presence was calm and confident, and she was extremely comfortable in our home, even though she’d never been there before. I really appreciated the space she gave to me and my partner at times, and I so appreciated the support she provided my partner—encouraging him to eat and giving him time to set up the birth pool. We cannot imagine the same successful birth outcome without her presence. We feel so fortunate to have met Chelsea!” —Amy R.
